Product Description This unit converts VGA or Component Video and Audio to HDMI. It allows for connection of Desktop or Notebook PC to a flat panel TV. It also allows for connecting equipment with component output (such as PS2, STB, DVD etc) to PC monitor that has only HDMI or DVI inputs.
Bought this for the WiiJuly 23, 2010 David F. Mishler Jr.(Griffith, IN United States) I bought this because the component inputs on my HD TV stopped working and I wanted to connect the Wii with component cables. I had no issues setting this up or having it work with my tv. You can even run the sound through this box. I have not tried the VGA input as I do not have a use for this.
Good customer serviceJuly 22, 2010 Lori L. The product came quickly and after a bit of confusion as to how to properly hook the product up to view powerpoint on my television. I spoke with customer service who sent me a better manual along with offering to take it back no charge if I could not get it to work.
A bit of computer knowledge and needing to know the settings to change on your computer is needed to make the device operate with your television.
Worked great for Playstation 2 and Playstation PortableJuly 16, 2010 Jerome79 I recently purchased this item for the specific purpose of connecting my Playstation 2 (PS2) to my monitor through HDMI. For that specific purpose, it works great.
The only major problems I have with this product are that it does not have audio inputs. This was not an issue with my particular setup, because I intended to use a separate sound system anyway. Other than this, the line doubling effect did not produce as great an increase in visual quality as I expected. I think that the line doubler algorithm probably is not a complex one that considers both the line above and below. This merely takes the line and literally doubles it. Don't expect a fancy box either. The box is very simple and generic. The instruction aren't going to help you much either.
Okay now for the accolades. First off I am able to play Playstation with a set of component cables in wide screen. I was worried initially because the VGA to HDMI is limited to 4:3 screen ratios that wide screen video would not be supported, but I am happy to say that is not the case. One commenter said the unit got extremely hot, that has not been the case at all. The unit does not get hot, but also does not have an internal fan which means its quiet. To my surprise, I was also able to use my Playstation Portable (PSP) with this device (with component cables of course). I was ready to spend a lot more money for this type of product, but this works great and is easy to use.
I took a picture with my cell phone of the screen. [...]
Warm but works greatJuly 12, 2010 D. Grady The product does get warm, but not nearly as hot as I expected after reading some of the other reviews here. I would also agree that an on/off switch would be a nice addition. While it was enough to keep me from giving the product 5 stars, neither of these flaws detract from how well the product works.
I had been using an S-Cable to connect my older HP Laptop to my not so new Panasonic plasma. Unfortunately no amount of tinkering with the resolution could produce a decent picture. It took about three minutes to plug this in and it worked perfectly right away.
I then noticed that the package said "up-scale". I still use an older dvd player on this tv without an up-scaling feature. SO I figured might as well plug the component cables from the dvd into this and see if it makes a difference. It seems to, but not all that noticeable.
The price is great. Especially, compared to getting all new equipment.

Works like a charm for hooking up an older laptop to a Big flat screen TV with HDMI.
